| 22-02-2007, | Callenish Circle calls it quits !!! |
| “After nearly 15 years we have decided to lay our precious CALLENISH CIRCLE to rest. We will play our last show on Saturday the 10th of March at De Azijnfabriek in Roermond, The Netherlands. This was not the easiest decision to make, but in the end, we all agree that CALLENISH CIRCLE has now run its course. We have accomplished everything that we set out to do and even more but now the time has come to move on. We are all very proud of our latest album [Pitch.Black.Effects] and feel that now is a good time to call it a day. After all those years the inspiration to keep CALLENISH CIRCLE going was slowly fading away. We always aimed to deliver the goods with the highest quality possible and we simply do not want to continue a band that can’t give the essential blood, sweat & tears anymore. We prefer to burn out on a high note now, rather than just slowly fade into obscurity. Some bands linger on for years past their expiration date but CALLENISH CIRCLE will definitely not become one of those bands. Over the past 15 years, CALLENISH CIRCLE have left their mark on the worldwide metal scene with 5 albums released, toured with many great bands and played lots of great shows & festivals. It was definitely an interesting journey for all of us, and we look back at our past with absolutely no regrets, only with pride. When we started this band in the early ‘90-ies we were just a bunch of kids who thought it would be fun to play some cover tunes of our favourite bands at the time, just think of influential bands like Death, Pestilence, (old) Paradise Lost & Bolt Thrower. Back then we never could have imagined that, almost 15 years later, we would have released 5 full-length albums of which the last 3 released worldwide on the highly acclaimed Metal Blade Records and that we would have played over 200 shows & festivals all over the world, being our Mexican Tour 2006 one of the definite highlights in our career. So many of you from all around the world have gotten into our music, and for us musicians playing in a band, that is really what it is all about. Having people from all over the world tell you that they have genuinely been moved by your music is definitely a great thing. We are very pleased that you enjoyed what we created. Those words were always an inspiration to us and we can truly walk away from CALLENISH CIRCLE with our heads held high at this point, no doubt about that. But as always... all good things come to an end and we would like to thank every one of our fans across the globe for their never ending support. You are the main reason why we stuck around for so long. Thank YOU! And ofcourse thanks to everyone else that had a role in making CALLENISH CIRCLE what it is today. You all know who you are. Not much more really needs to be said. We hope to see some of you at our last show in Roermond on the 10th of March. Dutch fellow thrashers Engine of Pain will release their debut album that night and the opening slot is filled by State:Chaos (the new band of former CALLENISH CIRCLE bassplayer Rocco). This will definitely become a night to remember.” Wim, Muuk, Gav, Ron & Pat / Callenish Circle. |

| 23-01-2006, | Tour-report... Callenish Circle goes Mexico! |
| A few months ago we got an offer to support Paradise Lost on their 3 Mexican dates. An offer we didn’t have to think about twice since Paradise Lost is one of the bands that initially inspired us to start playing this kind of music. As some people still might remember Callenish Circle originally started as a cover band back in the early 90’ies by playing covers of bands like Death, Pestilence, Bolt Thrower and yes… Paradise Lost. So it speaks for itself we were very proud we now (almost 14 years later) got the chance to support one of these bands. After months of preparations and taking care of loads of paperwork we finally left home on Wednesday 05.30am to catch our first flight in Brussels. The flight from Brussels to Atlanta and from Atlanta to Mexico City went pretty smoothly and at the airport in Mexico City we were already welcomed by promoter Rodrigo (Inferno Productions) and the roadcrew. Soon after that we were picked up by the touring car that would transport us (and fellow countrymen Asrai) during the next 3 days of our trip. During our travel to Monterrey (where the first show was booked) we were first pulled over by the Mexican border patrol who inspected the touring car but not very thoroughly if I may say so. But then, just 2 hours before our arrival in Monterrey, we got a very unpleasant inspection from the national migration service who claimed the paperwork (working visas) were not ok. These f#ckers really gave us a hard time ‘cause we had to drive back for almost an hour to their nice little office to get everything sorted. After more than 2 hours of endless waiting at the migration station and Rodrigo paying them a shitload of ca$h we were finally released so we could continue our trip to Monterrery where we arrived pretty late in the afternoon. All in all we travelled nearly 40 ! hours (by car, plane & bus) to the first show that was scheduled on Thursday-evening in Club Iguana. After a quick meeting with the 2 other bands (Paradise Lost & The Birthday Massacre) and Carlos (the other half of Inferno Productions) we went to the hotel for a few hours of very welcomed sleep. Despite the exhausting travel our very first show on Mexican ground went pretty well and also the audience seemed to like our stuff a lot as they responded in a very enthusiastic way. Unfortunately the (vocal) monitoring on stage was really bad so I forced my voice a little bit too much but all in all it was a nice show and a good warming up for the 2 other shows still to come. When headliner Paradise Lost entered the stage we were kinda curious how the band would sound in 2005. Most of us hadn’t seen the band for quite a long time but all of us were positively surprised by their tight performance that night. The band played a superb show and also the newer material sounded really great live. Well… maybe a classic like ‘As I Die…’ will never be written again but still the band really caught our full attention and so we decided to watch their entire set even though we were extremely tired of the exhausting travel. After the show the club was quickly transformed into a techno/house club and it looked liked a nice party was going to be started but unfortunately we had to leave early that night as another long trip was waiting for us. So immediately after the show we went back to the hotel for a quick shower and right after that we continued our trip to Guadalajara, where we were scheduled to play at the well-known Hardrock Live Club on Friday-evening. After a long bus trip of nearly 12 hours (again without too much sleep) we finally reached Guadalajara and it was a very cool venue with a big stage. When we arrived at the venue the first fans were already waiting outside for signatures, photographs and a friendly chat… a sign of what was still to come later on that night. Right after our show we had some mixed feelings ‘cause we made a couple of big fuck-ups in our set due to the extremely bad sound on stage. For example Gav (drummer) wasn’t able to hear anything of the rest of the band… and that makes playing together pretty difficult I can assure you. On the other hand the fans went completely nuts during our show by screaming out the lyrics, banging their heads like maniacs and going completely crazy in the big slamming pit… hell yeah, that’s the way we like it! After our show we went back into the venue where we autographed tons of cd’s & concert-tickets and got caught on photo-camera by an insane crowd. A lot of fans even told us they just came to see Callenish Circle, which was really a big surprise because upfront we thought Callenish Circle was still pretty much unknown in the Mexican territory… how wrong we were! On the last (Satur)day we travelled back to Mexico City which was an adventure on its own. Mexico City is a huge (the biggest in the world?) city with not less than 26 million inhabitants. That’s 10 million people more than the whole population over here in The Netherlands. It takes more than 3 hours of (highway) travelling to drive through the entire city. People who have been there know what I am talking about I guess… this city was like a big frightening monster swallowing everything and everybody around. So after almost 2,5 hours cruising through the city we finally arrived at the Gran Forum venue. The venue itself was pretty huge and outside the first fans were already waiting for our arrival. Outside there was also a little metalmarket with all kinds of bootlegged merchandise. Our show went really great again and this time without the major fuck-ups of the day before. The audience went totally crazy once again and even though we were exhausted from the intense travelling we gave our last drop of energy to the insane crowd. What happened after the show I still find hard to believe… as soon as we left the backstage area we were surrounded by an almost hysterical crowd who all wanted autographs, pictures, guitar picks, drumsticks, set lists, even our wet clothing was demanded… maybe they thought we were some kind of popular boy-band… hahaha. But with this show we unfortunately also reached the end of the tour and so it was time to pack our bags and travel back to the airport again. We said goodbye to the lads of Paradise Lost (and their crew) whom all turned out to be very friendly guys after all. At the airport we also got ripped off for nearly 500 euros by the official money exchange office. So everybody travelling to Mexico City beware of these thieves! After a long and totally exhausting travel we arrived back home on Monday morning… back to normal life ‘cause on Tuesday our regular jobs were waiting again. Looking back I can say this was not just a musical experience but definitely a lifetime experience that we will remember the rest of our lives. So hereby we want to thank Carlos & Rodrigomo Mejia (Inferno Productions), the rest of the Mejia family and the entire roadcrew for doing a great job and making this all possible for us. And last but not least all the fans for coming out to the shows… be sure we will be back soon! Muchos gracias amigos !!! |

| 05-09-2005, | New album ready! |
| We finally finished the recordings of our new (and meanwhile 5th) album titled [Pitch.Black.Effects]. It was recorded at aRe U Recordings in Holland under supervision of producer Gail Liebling and the final mix was done at the well-known Antfarm Studio in Denmark with Tue Madsen (a.o. The Haunted, Illdisposed & Mnemic). Mastering duties were handled again by Peter Neuber at Mega Wimp Sound in Germany and last but not least the complete artwork was created by Danish art talent Mircea Gabriel Eftemie at Cadaverman Media. Official statement from guitar player Ron on the new album: This time we decided to record, mix and master the album on different locations. We recorded the album over here in Holland with our long-time (live) sound-engineer Gail Liebling and the final mix was done in Denmark with Tue Madsen at his Antfarm Studio. Last but not least the mastering was done by Peter Neuber at Mega Wimp Sound and this turned out to be a perfect combination. The sound is absolutely killer! Gail, who is also responsible for all digital/wacky sounds on ‘My Passion//Your Pain’, was also involved in the writing process now. Result is that the amount of digital sounds increased, also being more integrated in the music, which turned out great. I think we made a big step forward regarding production and song writing and we’re very anxious to hear what the fans and press think of it. What we think… groovy as hell, catchy as Justin Timberlake and heavy as fuck! You’ll be surprised, that’s for sure!!! |
| 13-07-2005, | Studio report take VI : mixing at Antfarm Studio (by Gail) ! |
| After 22 days of gruelling long hour studio sessions in a dim lighted basement studio I was happy to finally see some decent daylight again. Or at least, I thought so (hahaha). Ron booked us a 13 hour night-train trip to Aarhus, Denmark where we arrived at around 10 in the morning to be picked up by Tue and be shipped straight into his Antfarm studio again. So much for sightseeing. Tue was just anxious to see what I had put together on the hard drive I guess. After we checked the recordings and adjusted everything to his studio set up I saw him relax. And yes... he did ask if we were tired. After that we started discussing where I wanted to take this production. How I had recorded certain stuff and why. Especially the vocals needed some explanation since Pat and I really went out of our way to get some wacky shit going with the vocals. Luckily Tue and I think in a very similar way, so there was no need for lengthy elaborations about anything. Everything needed only half a word. Nice!!!!! That makes this job so much easier and I think you can hear it in the mixes. It’s really turning out to be a heavy hitting, glueing you to the wall and biting your ass album. Really worth all the effort we put into it. And an effort it was. I worked the guys really hard to get the right feel and tightness. I think it was especially hard for Maurice stepping in on such short notice and having to record a lot of parts more or less on the fly (a lot of them were made up just minutes before recording) and having me push him to f**king rape that bass guitar for 12 to 14 hours a day. He sometimes looked as though his head was gonna explode. I gotta hand it to you body... respect! At this point I think I have to let you in on a secret. Ron and I spent a lot of time together these past months. I mean... 18 out of the 22 recording days him and I were together. Plus the train trip and sharing a room here in Denmark. It kinda creates a bond you know. When we decide to marry I promise we´ll anounce it here first, ok? (sorry about that Kim, but this trrrrue loooove... LOL). But seriously. We spent lot of time together. First playing guide while laying down the drum tracks, then recording 36 rhythm tracks and on top of that a lot of melody and clean guitar tracks plus helping out with the recording and creating of the bass tracks. And now here in Denmark, making sure Tue and I don’t go for a Britney Spears sound (yeah as if...). You kinda expect we’d start to annoy each other somehow, right? Not!!! I’d do it all again baby. Basically I think this coop was brilliant. Thanx for the trust and letting me do my thing guyz. Actually the only time I really got asskicked was when Kaleen heard the final edits of her vocal stuff. She made me record it all over again in the very last days to make it stick better to the rest of the music. I must admit though... it’s way better now. Thanx honey (Ich tanze ja nutzlos in der Sonne). Next up is the mastering stage. Really looking forward to hear what the finishing touch does to this already killer record. I guess the underlying message of this last part is... GO OUT AND BUY THE FRIGGING RECORD AIGHT !!!!! |
| 04-07-2005, | Studio report take V : vocal recordings (by Pat) ! |
| At last it was my turn in studio. On day 1 we started with the song ‘Sweet Cyanide’. This one is most in line with the faster songs on MP//YP, containing a very catchy chorus. Next up was ‘This Day You Regret’. Since this will be the opening song it needed some extra attention. Gail (producer) and I worked out some really great vocal lines and experimented with different vocals styles and cool effects. On the 2nd day we recorded ‘As You Speak’, ‘Blind’ and ‘Behind Lines’. Even though it was a very long recording day everything went pretty smooth. Now I had a couple of days off. A very welcome break cause after 2 days of intense recordings my vocal cords got slightly irritated and needed some rest. On day 3 we started with ‘Guess Again’ and this turned out to be the most intense, extreme and over the top vocals I ever recorded. Luckily the other song that day was less intense cause I am not sure if I would have succeeded to record another song in the vein of ‘Guess Again’. For \'Black Sear\' I only had to record the couplets since the choruses will be sung by Kaleen (Gail of God). Again a few days rest and again a welcome break cause one of the last songs I needed to record was only finished during the last few rehearsals and even partly in the studio. So also the vocal lines for this song still needed to be worked out for the biggest part. Nevertheless ‘Ignorant’ turned out to be a killer song. Last song in the schedule of day 4 was ‘Self-Inflicted’, by far the slowest song on the album. All in all I can say I am extremely satisfied with the vocal recordings and also the cooperation with producer Gail went absolutely great. We really worked out some amazing vocal lines and also experimented a lot with different vocal styles (no clean vocals, don’t worry!!!) and great sound effects. Gail definitely has some great ideas when it comes to recording vocals. Next week Ron and Gail will head to Denmark to mix the album with Tue Madsen at his already legendary Antfarm Studio. |

| 23-06-2005, | Studio report take IV : bass recordings (by Maurice) ! |
| Hi there folks... you probably expected some lines from Rocco here, so first let me introduce myself. My name is Maurice Brouwers, bassplayer from Dutch Thrash band Engine of Pain. Just a couple weeks ago I got a quite suprisingly and unexpected phone call from the Callenish lads if I wanted to play bass on their new album... and ofcourse I wanted to do that! So after a couple of very intensive rehearsals and long days working together with Ron and Gav we managed to create some really cool bass lines. Before we actually started recording we had to find a suitable bass sound and in order to get that sound we borrowed some equipment here and there. Thanx and appreciation go out to Junior (Desentisised) & Pol (Morning)! We tried a couple of different set ups and finally found a very heavy and bad ass sound. The first very long recording day went pretty well and we recorded almost 5 songs. I only had some sound problems with my bass, so we decided to record with my other bass which sounded much heavier. The second day was again a very long working day and it was more difficult since these songs were quite new song to me. Some of them were re-written/arranged in the studio, so also most of the basslines had to be re-written/arranged in the studio. But together with Gail (producer) and Ron I managed to record them and they really sound killer. Next week I will record some minor stuff that we didnt have time for this time. Next up is Pat to record some shredding vocals... go for it! |
| 20-06-2005, | Studio report take III : bass & wacky sounds (by Gav) ! |
| Hi all, here a small studio-update again. Past days our session bassplayer Maurice Brouwers (Engine of Pain) had to pull off a few stringz. Only four weeks ago he started rehearsing the songs with us and creating basslines (from point zero). The first results are a fact and he did a really cool job. Almost 6 tracks are finished now and he did some really suprising things. Today he is finishing the last tracks. Another thing that kept us awake and buzzy were the wacky sounds we are experimenting with. Gail Liebling (Gail of God), our producer and live sound-engineer is absolutely killer with synths and stuff. So last couple of days we spend quite some hours brainstorming and experimenting with the final wacky sounds extras on the new album. So also from that corner, some suprising stuff is to be expected! Thats all for now, but we will keep you posted in the next few days... |
| 14-06-2005, | Studio report take II : guitar recordings (by Ron) ! |
| After playing guide guitar in order to help Gav getting the drums on tape, it was up to Gail (producer) to do some editing on the recorded tracks. After that I was the chosen victim to show my abilities on the six stringed axe. The first day we spent a couple of hours trying to find the guitar sound we had in mind. After trying some different set-ups and guitars, we definitely succeeded finding exactly what we wanted. I started recording the first of the 36 guitar tracks (9 songs with 4 basic guitars per song). I must say this went pretty smooth, so after 3 days of a little blood, minor sweat and just a few teardrops I finished the basic tracks of one guitar. For the other guitar’s basic tracks we had to find another sound fitting to the already recorded one. Again we tried several set-ups before we were satisfied. And satisfied we were! The sounds match perfectly and are causing a big smile on my face every time I hear it. Playing the other guitar parts again took 3 looooong days. Respect to Gail and Rene (assistent studio engineer) for making such an amount of studio hours a day. Now it was time to play the clean, acoustic, melodic and solo guitars. The solo guitars were partly recorded by Muuk. After 3 (again long) days of experimenting with sounds, riffs, little extra’s and listening the songs over and over again we finally got to see some daylight again. With all guitars on tape, knowing it shreds big-time, I can get some decent sleep for the first time in weeks. But hearing the result, it must say it was definitely worth it. Next up is Maurice (Engine of Pain) recording the basslines. Maurice replaces Rocco (who is not a member of Callenish Circle anymore) in the studio. More news about that soon... |
| 30-05-2005, | Studio report take I : recording drumtracks (by Gav) ! |
| Well well, it was about time that we started recording our new album. After setting up my drumkit and doing a soundcheck on Wednesday-evening (25.06) we started recordings on Thursday. First on was the song Sweet Cyanide but after almost a day of recording we decided that the drumsound still was not satisfying. So I rushed to the drumstore, bought & borrowed some stuff, put the drumkit back together and started recording again. Maybe it was because of the tension on Thursday (with the drumsound and all that) but on Friday everything went much smoother and the recordings were more tight and with the right drive. So we decided to re-record Sweet Cyanide and somehow Friday seemed to be my lucky day cause 4 more tracks were recorded and goooood! One track on the album has a real ambient feeling with quite some wacky sounds so on Saturday my mission was to provide some functional basic drumming for this song. I was quite surprised how this turned out. By Sunday we still had 2 days left for three more tracks. Shouldn´t be that hard, right? Despite of all this it took quite some time to get some really satisfying recording today. I guess the long days of recording and studio work made me pretty tired. It seems much heavier than my daytime (being a computer nerd) job. Monday was my last scheduled recording day. We left the hardest tracks for the last, but non the less, it needed to be finished today. Luckily the recordings went much better than on Sunday so everything was finished nicely in the planned schedule. Now it is up to the other fellows to do their thing. |

Hereby the band sincerely appologizes to their fans in Switserland, Italy, Spain and Portugal for not playing the scheduled shows. The band hopes to play these countries soon under better conditions. |

| 09-11-2001, | Flesh_Power_Dominion mastered at Wisseloord Studios |
| Today we went to the famous Wisseloord Studios in Hilversum to master the new Flesh_Power_Dominion-album. It was a great experience to work in a studio where legendary bands like Judas Priest, Metallica, Queensryche and many more recorded their albums. After the mastering the sound of the album is even more massive and powerful... so it was definitely worth the money. |
